ServoCode In HackYeah Final - Fellcare

Hackathons are a great opportunity for developers to test their skills and come up with life-changing solutions. A team from ServoCode along with Designer Paweł Hahn and Android Developer Igor Mańka, took part in the biggest stationary hackathon in the world - HackYeah. The issue we decided to solve were falls of elders.

Tough topic
The problem is more serious than you might think. On average, 1/3 of people over 65 years old falls every year. 60% of these accidents cause injuries. Moreover, every year about 400 thousand people die due to falls globally. In many cases, these deaths could have been prevented if someone had help injured people. With our solution, we can make an actual difference.

We connected our experiences from various branches of technology to create an innovative product. Meet Fallcare, our application that informs relatives or medical stuff about falls of seniors via SMS.

Our basic armor became AI. We taught it to recognize falls. To achieve it, a smartphone was sending 25 samples from accelerometer and gyroscope.

Gyroscope. During a fall, amplitude increases, the tenor of lines is more hectic.

Accelerometer. Rotation implies a fall.

Apart from engaging AI, we prepared backend service in Python and Android application. The first use of Fellcare became Igor. Thank his sacrifice in falling, we could demonstrate how the app runs. Our project has reached the final!

Thank you HackYeah for the unique experience! See you next year!
